50 Tiny Things Every 20-Something Needs To Realize

On my ONE year anniversary with WordPress, I thought I should post something for myself and for all the 20 somethings out there. Some of us already have been through our quarter life crisis while the rest of still have everything come easy. I came across this post on Thought Catalogue written by Lauren Jarvis-Gibson.

So here is what I read and loved!

1. Your parents only want what is best for you.

2. You can’t change your body type.

3. Meditation actually works.

4. You aren’t fifteen anymore.

5. Talking about someone behind their back isn’t going to make you look any cooler.

6. You aren’t going to have the same friends that you did when you were six. And that’s ok.

7. People grow apart.

8. Just because someone tells you they love you, doesn’t mean they will mean it forever.

9. When you find love, don’t run away.

10. Everyone is fighting a battle you know nothing about.

11. You are not as alone as you think.

12. Making a mistake is not the end of the world.

13. You’re allowed to quit a job you hate.

14. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do something.

15. Sex gets better.

16. Travel while you are young.

17. Heartbreak is a universal feeling. And it’s not going to kill you despite what you might think.

18. Trust your gut.

19. You have to work at what you want. It’s not going to come to you.

20. Don’t get back with your ex.

21. Crying doesn’t make you weak.

22. You’re allowed to feel lost at this age.

23. You’re allowed to not know what the heck you are doing.

24. Work hard in school. It will be worth it.

25. Don’t let people who treat you badly back into your life just out of comfort.

26. When you say, ‘I love you’, mean it.

27. Your dream career may not be what you are going to do for the rest of your life.

28. Your dream guy/girl may not be who you end up with.

30. Love is always going to be beautiful.

31. Mental health isn’t something to joke about.

32. You’re allowed to drop everything and travel.

33. You are still so, so young.

34. You will probably have a quarter-life crisis one of these days, but I promise you, you will survive it.

35. Block your ex on every social media platform. Trust me.

36. If you are in love with someone, tell them.

37. Make mistakes. And then learn from them instead of beating yourself up about it.

38. Follow your own advice.

39. If you really want something, chase after it until you get it.

40. Being kind goes a long way.

41. Know your worth.

42. Don’t let people treat like you like a little kid.

43. How you see yourself is so important.

44. You can’t hide from your problems.

45. Tell the truth and come clean if you mess up. Don’t hide.

46. Grades don’t mean a thing in the real world.

47. Worrying more will not do anything to help you.

48. You need to surround yourself with people that make you feel good about yourself, not people that bring you down.

49. Don’t ever take anything for granted, especially the people who you love.

50. Say ‘I love you‘ as much as you can.

Honestly, these are the best set of advices I’ve ever come across. They are so relatable and so true at the same time!

Millennials, take heart!

I wasn’t motivated to write this until I had a discussion with my friends about how work was draining the life out of us. We all had one thing common, we all wanted to break away from the familiar norms and reconstruct how our society was engineered. Being successful did not just mean a steady job to us but instead, we want to do more in life than have a 9-5 job and be paid every month.

Of course, we followed our passion because who doesn’t want to spend their working hours doing something they love? However, this got me thinking because though, following your passion seems exciting at first it is misleading because how many of us truly know what our passion is? Ok for those who have really found that spark, how many of you can align that with a job? Obviously, life isn’t about paycheques and careers anymore but in this competitive world what else will we survive on?

The transition from university to work isn’t very easy and for the first time, we leave our comfort zone. We started doing what everybody today calls it, adulting! For us, the Millennials we like things quick and easy. We are so used to getting fast results that our entry level job is too tiresome because we get into the field expecting exciting and fulfilling opportunities. This is the phase where we must build the basics and lay out the foundation of our career ladder by accepting the challenges. I recently read that though it might not be possible to follow your passion into the working world, it is possible to find passion and meaning in almost any job or industry by finding your flow. So instead of cribbing what you’re doing right now, set out and find your flow! Find out the things you excel at and broaden your career perspective by knowing what you do best.

To crunch it down, we’re in our flow when we’re at our best, and when we maximize opportunities to be at our best, we can find passion in whatever work we are doing. And while you’re at it, make it the most of it by making memories!

Savoury Oatmeal!

One week into the year of 2017, I wonder how many of you want some incentive to keep going. So, I am back at my breakfast recipe give away.

Obviously, my recipes are BuzzFeed, Tastemade or Pinterest inspired but if you ask me why breakfast makes up my favorite meal, it’s because they appeal to the lethargic side of me. The best part about these is that you can even prepare them the previous night so you don’t have to wake up extra early. Heck, they are even your breakfast to-go options when you don’t want to run late on an empty stomach.

This one today was an epiphany to me! I mean I never realized there are other ways of preparing your oatmeal. I thought of taking the road less trodden by making my oatmeal savory and not sweet! Initially, I was very skeptical about this but obviously, it intrigued me so much that I just had to try it out myself.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup quick-cooking rolled oats
  • Coarse salt and ground pepper
  • 4-5 of Mushrooms cleaned and cut in half (you can use sausages or any other meat option too)
  • 3 Cherry tomatoes
  • A handful of Walnuts
  • 1 large egg

Directions

In a small saucepan, bring 1 cup water to a boil. Add oats and pinch of salt; stir, reduce heat, and simmer until tender, about 5 minutes.

Meanwhile, heat a small nonstick pan over medium. Coat lightly with cooking spray. Cook the mushrooms with a little butter along with the walnuts to add to the flavor. Once the mushrooms are cooked and the nuts roasted, set them aside. Add egg and cook until white is set and yolk is still runny, about 3 minutes. Season egg to taste with salt and pepper.

Serve oatmeal in a bowl, layer the sunny side up egg on top along with the mushrooms and the walnuts.

You can always go ahead for your favorite sides instead of mushrooms and walnuts.

Aglio Olio my way!

I know I have been stuck on giving out breakfast recipes but today, I feel extra generous and here’s one of my all time super easy main course recipe! Spaghetti Aglio Olio is a famous dish from the Naples which requires only garlic and olive oil. Aglio Olio itself means garlic and oil. Here you go now my easy peasy recipe number two!

Impress your guests with this fancy yet simple traditional Italian dish, trust me it only takes 15 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 250 grams of spaghetti
  • 4-5 garlic cloves finely chopped
  • 200 grams of Mushroom cleaned and cut in half (you can use sausages or any other meat option too)
  • Freshly grated Parmesan
  • Salt, Pepper, Butter, Olive Oil, Chilli Flakes

Directions

Cook the spaghetti as per the instructions until al dente (Make sure the spaghetti isn’t over-cooked because we don’t want it to break)

While the spaghetti is cooking, heat a saucepan. Put in 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil and add the mushrooms, saute them until golden brown on all the sides.

Push the mushrooms to one side of the pan, add a little olive oil and the finely chopped garlic along with some salt and chilly flakes. Saute for one minute without disturbing the mushrooms. Make sure you don’t burn the garlic. Once you get the garlic’s aroma rising saute them all together.

Add the cooked spaghetti, to the pan. Add some more salt, pepper and Chilli flakes to the spaghetti along with some butter. When you toss the spaghetti, be gentle as you don’t want them breaking down into smaller pieces.

Transfer to the serving dishes and just before you serve, for a bit of sophistication, grate some parmesan on the top.

Enjoy your Spaghetti Aglio Olio with a nice crusty bread on the side.

If you have some leftovers the next day, add some canned peeled tomato puree for some flavor. Mix it, heat it, eat it!

You’ll be glad there was some leftovers from the day before 😛

For the sake of pancakes!

My first recipe on my blog.. *does the weirdo dance*
Pancakes have always been my thing for breakfast, heck breakfast itself is my favorite meal of the day! On a busy morning, it’s easy to let breakfast not make it to one of your top priorities, but having something to eat before you start your day could really make a difference. If you are one of those people who have super busy mornings then you can even prepare this batter the previous night and cook it up in the morning. So here you go, one of my favorite take on pancakes! 😀

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
  • a small pinch of salt
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • cooking spray
  • chocolate chips (optional)
  • blueberries (optional)

Directions

Combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a large mixing bowl. Whisk egg and butter into the milk. Pour the flour mixture into the wet ingredients and whisk until lumps are gone. Add the vanilla essence to the mixture.

Heat a large skillet over medium heat, and coat with cooking spray. Pour 1/4 cupfuls of batter onto the skillet and top it with some blueberries and chocolate chips.

Cook until bubbles appear on the surface and only flip with a spatula when the bubbles pop and create holes on the pancake. Cook until browned on the other side.

You can always substitute the blueberries and chocolate chips for your favorite fruits and toppings. You can experiment with apples, bananas, strawberries, nutella, whipped cream, roasted pecans, walnuts, carrots, sweet potatoes, raisins, oats etc. Go ahead, go crazy!

Honey, pancake syrup or maple syrup whatever your jazz is,add and enjoy! 🙂

Easy Come, Easy Go.

People come and go. Everyone that has been in your life has been there for a reason, to teach you, to love you or to experience life with you.

One of the reasons I’m writing this post is because lately I’ve been pondering about all the people that have been in my life. Some have stayed but some drift apart because of obvious reason or just like that. Initially, I hated losing people who were so dear to me. I didn’t want them to part ways with me. It’s only now that I’ve started accepting that this is how life is. Although many of my friends are away from me, everything snaps back into place when we meet. It’s like nothing has changed between us.
There are people who’ve hurt me, loved me, used me, ignored me, adored me etc.. all these people I am extremely thankful for because one thing they all have in common is that, they have all thought me important lessons in life whether good or bad.

I think we should all be thankful for the good times and the bad times we’ve had and take them all as lessons because God doesn’t give us the people we want, He gives us the people we need in our lives. He gives us these people to make us the person we are meant to be.
The people who come into our lives might not know the reason why they are in our lives, even we wouldn’t but trust me there’s a reason.

So whether a person comes into your life for a reason, season or a lifetime; cherish their stay, learn and grow as an individual.
Don’t stress over the small things in life because nothing is permanent. A moment is what you make of it.

Spontaneity is Key

A goal without a plan is just a wish!
– Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Well, im pretty sure Antoine of 1900s was a man of great and precise planning. Who wouldn’t be? We humans are all creatures of habit. We love planning our days ahead and get disappointed when things don’t go the way we want it to go.

So why not avoid this disappointment and not plan things ahead and just go with the flow?

Obviously its scary because you are inviting a lot of uncertainty into your life but it’s this fear that holds us back from the glory of spontaneity. By letting go, you open yourself to what the world has to offer and what you can do by living and not by just existing.
Once you accept what life has to offer, you realize that not having a plan is actually the best plan of all!

So breathe, smile and just go with the flow!
Take risks in life, if you succeed you’ll be happy but if you don’t then you become wise and learn from it.
Make mistakes because mistakes have the power to turn you into a better person than you were before.

Take the plunge and don’t have room for regret!
